SPORT TOURING - Advanced Rider Training
ST-ART
The UtahSBA recognizes that not everyone who rides a sport bike has aspirations to race. That's why we've partnered with CanyonChasers Motorcycle Sport Touring and Utah Rider Education to bring you a track school dedicated to the street rider.
By combining the instruction expertise of Utah's premier MSF provider and the hundreds of thousands of miles of sport touring experience of the CanyonChasers into a track based curriculum, we believe we have an exciting program for riders who enjoy riding on the street instead of strictly on the track.
An exciting part of this program is that you won't have to ride a dedicated sport bike to enjoy this program. It has been designed to work with riders of everything from GoldWings and FJR1300's, BMW R-bikes and Ducati ST's as well as naked bikes, cruisers and standard motorcycles. In other words, this program will work for riders of every kind of motorcycle!
Requirements
Riders will need a few things before they sign up, however. All riders must have a motorcycle endorsement, proof of insurance and proof of ownership (or written permission from the motorcycle owner).
- A full-face helmet.
- A motorcycle specific riding jacket.
- Over the ankle, solid footwear.
- Motorcycle specific, full finger gloves.
- Tires in new or near new condition.
- A motorcycle in good operating condition. (All motorcycles will be required to pass a tech. inspection).
Miller Motorsports Park has granted the UtahSBA a special waiver allowing Sport Touring motorcycles to access the track with glycol based coolant. ST-ART Participants do not need to replace traditional coolant with Water-Wetter or similar product.
Why take the Sport Touring Advanced Rider Training?
Do you sometimes enter corners too fast?
Do you find yourself making mid-corner corrections?
Do you find yourself dragging parts of your bike?
Do you sometimes feel like you are riding on the edge of your abilities?
Do you wish you had more confidence in the canyons?
Then this course will be perfect for you!
Rather than spend time teaching riders how to navigate a specific track, this course has been designed to help teach riders how to read any road, how to set your entry speed, how to find safer lines through corners you've never seen before and how to more safely navigate your favorite canyon road. By teaching in a controlled environment at faster speeds than an Experienced Rider Course, the training will offer a more intense, real-world experience.
Even if you've never been on a track before, this program is designed to be un-intimidating, safe and fun! Speeds limits are set for each session and objectives are clearly defined. Learning how to be smooth is given more attention than learning how to be fast.
"As a sport tourning enthusiast, the Sport Touring ART provided a truly unique opportunity. I've taken the Freddie Spencer 2 day training course and it was excellent. However, you ride 600 cc sport bikes, and much of what I learned was geared toward racing or riding on the track exclusively. So although it clearly improved my street riding, it wasn't really focused on the type of riding (sport touring) that is my passion. The Sport Touring ART class was perfect. It gave me opportunity ride my bigger bike (FJR 1300), and with the help of multiple instructors, really focus on the technique I use everyday on the street. It was a great experience, and I hope there are many more in the coming seasons."

"After the Sport Touring - ART class, my riding was more confident and smoother. My skills at preparing to enter a curve and maintaining a good line through the curve, be it a tight twisty or a more graceful sweeper, vastly improved. I learned how far my bike can lean over and still be safe, I learned how my body posture on the bike can better enable me to handle any curve, and I learned how to truly look through a turn and to trust the bike in doing so."
